Middle Market Manufacturing Program
Manufacturing processes create a variety of hazards. We commonly find one problem: the risk doesn’t believe the code applies to their process. As an illustration, some manufacturing processes produce a byproduct known as “renegade dust.” Left unchecked, this renegade dust creates a potential explosion hazard.
Risks commonly inform us that their material is not explosive. That may be true.
However, the renegade dust is explosive.
We educate them by showing the following video, which supports the need to install a security camera monitoring horizontal areas prone to dust buildup.
We recommend they apply florescent duct tape to the thickness of a paper clip to their horizontal surfaces. When monitoring, if they cannot visibly see the florescent tape, they can instruct housekeeping to quickly eliminate the exposure with industrial vacuums.

Now that you have viewed the video, allow us to verify that renegade dust is not a hazard in your risks.

When we start the onsite inspection process, we show a very short video clip of a secondary dust explosion and the ensuing fireball that devastates the facility.
This video has a major impact on the insured – and they immediately recognize their need for the onsite engineering process.
