Inspector Benefits

Consider for one moment a large shopping mall close to where you live. It is comprised of numerous businesses, restaurants, shopping stores, and a variety of other businesses and buildings. Each one of those operations and buildings has Insurance Coverage and Insurance Carriers pay for a loss control insurance inspector to inspect that business operation on their behalf.

The purpose is to verify that controls are in place to prevent a loss of life or fire. Look at all the commercial properties within 1 hour of your home and someone must inspect those commercial businesses. Why not you!!

Below are some of the benefits in becoming a loss control insurance inspector.

  • Freedom and Independence operating as your own independent inspection service.
  • As a field loss control insurance inspector you operate as a 1099 sub-contractor running your own inspection service.
  • Freedom to operate either part time or full time.
  • Independence to structure your own territory.
  • Services are needed anywhere in the nation.
  • Small market inspections range between $65 to $125 per job and time for onsite inspection and write up is about 1 to 2 hours depending on the inspector’s skill, knowledge, and experience.
  • Middle market inspections range between $150 to $250 per job and time for onsite inspection and write up ranges between 2 to 4 hours depending on the inspector’s skill, knowledge, and experience.
  • Large market jobs are by the hour with hourly rates ranging from $35 to $45 per hour depending on the company.

Loss Control is not hard if you have the information you need to do the inspection and a source where you can quickly access information you need to advance and increase your income.

Loss Control Training Programs

If you are new to the industry, you will need all three training programs, and this will give you a good base to get started. We recommend that you become a member as this will increase your knowledge and income.

If you are an experienced field inspector, you will just need the Restaurant Training Program as you should be familiar with the basics of the first two programs.

When we market to the carriers we tell them that all field inspectors have taken the National Restaurant Training Program. Carrier underwriters feel secure in ordering restaurant inspections knowing that every field inspector has this training information.

Go to our National Restaurant page and in the training program you will learn the two techniques shown on that page and those two techniques alone can make a difference in your career and income.

1. Property Training Program

Purpose to mitigate or prevent property loss due to fire or other events. This program will teach you the basics needed to verify the construction and components of the building and any controls protecting the property, such as, sprinkler systems, fire/security alarms, and fire extinguishers. It will also teach hazards and controls that may be taking place inside the building.

2. Liability Training Program

Purpose to mitigate or prevent loss of life or injury to the public. This program will teach you the basic controls needed to keep the public safe while inside or outside the facility. Training includes controls that need to be in place such as emergency lighting, exit signs and other controls so the public can safely evacuate the building. Training includes the 12 different classifications of occupancy and controls relating to those occupancies.

3. National Restaurant Training Program

Purpose is to teach how to effectively inspect a restaurant operation. Learn specific steps to take to effectively evaluate the fire protection for the commercial cooking area. Training teaches how to mitigate completed operation losses due to food borne illness and critical stage areas of the operation.

Check with your accountant to verify that training programs are tax deductible.

Membership Benefits

One of the biggest benefits of your membership is how to obtain inspection work. In the membership area we teach you how to effectively e-mail inspection firms and contract for the work in your area.

I had a field inspector in the South that was grossing $55,000 per year doing residential inspections. He wanted to get into the commercial work, so he took the training courses. After he completed the training he used this one technique and the first day contracted with 12 companies.

He then chose the top 6 companies that paid well and had the most work. Not only did his income exceed the $55,000 per year but his work load decreased since he was getting paid a higher contract fee.

As owner of the corporation my primary responsibility is in the field inspecting large market inspections and developing programs for the carriers.

Since I am in the field I needed quick access to pre-engineer my inspections. What do I mean by this?

Simply, rather then go through numerous technical code books I needed quick access to the information, so I am prepared to conduct an inspection that I do not do on a regular basis.

As an example, I am going to inspect a distillery and I want to know the primary concern. I access the membership area and find that the biggest concern is Ethanol vapors and dust explosion from ingredients used in the brewery process, such as, corn, malt, and wheat.

This is the second biggest benefit of being a member as it gives you access to information so that you can advance and set yourself apart from your competition.

Increase your Knowledge – Increase your Income.

Verify with your accountant that membership fees are tax deductible.
